Benn has good experience at Stars development camp
FRISCO, Texas – Allen Americans defenseman Jordie Benn wrapped up the week-long development camp of the club’s NHL affiliate, the Dallas Stars, last Wednesday.
“Camp went well, and I learned a lot,” the defenseman said Thursday. “My favorite thing was just getting to know the guys and going on the ice and having some fun.”
The week was fairly laid back. One of the primary objectives of the camp was familiarizing the 30-plus prospects with the principles of the Stars organization, as well as giving them the opportunity to get to know each other.
Among the players at the camp were the Stars’ last two first round picks, goaltender Jack Campbell (11th overall at 2010 NHL Entry Draft) and forward Scott Glennie (8th overall at 2009 NHL Entry Draft).
In addition to conditioning on and off the ice, the players took part in fun activities, such as attending a Frisco RoughRiders game next door to the Stars practice facility.
Many summer camp participants have bright futures in the National Hockey League. Benn’s brother, Jamie, is a former Stars summer camp player that accomplished much in his NHL rookie season. In 2009-10 the forward scored 41 points in 82 games (22g-19a=41) before scoring 26 points in 24 games (14g-12a=26) in the American Hockey League playoffs for the Texas Stars.
Jordie scored 11 points in the Americans’ 20-game run for the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup. The 23-year-old secured Allen’s first playoff berth in franchise history after he scored an overtime goal Feb. 23 against Rio Grande Valley. The defenseman anticipates being part of the Stars rookie team that participates in the Traverse City tournament this fall as a result of his great developmental year with Allen.
Season tickets for Allen’s second season are on sale now. Ticket prices start as low as $9 per game with free parking at the Allen Event Center. For more information, call 972-912-1000.
