Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans and Quad City Mallards will meet for the second time in two days, Thursday evening at the Allen Event Center; puck drop is set for 7:05 PM.
The Quad City Mallards jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on Tuesday night on a pair of goals from Mallards forward Mickey Lang, 15 seconds apart, and the Mallards never trailed the rest of the way, cruising to a 3-2 win at the Allen Event Center. This was the first ever meeting between the two clubs.
“We played a solid third period on Tuesday night," said Americans defenseman Erik Adams, who returned to the Allen lineup after Mike Berube went on the ten day IR. “We need that same effort for three periods tonight.”
Tonight’s game features one of the five finalists for the CHL MVP Award in Mallards forward Brandon Marino. Americans three-time CHL All Star Bruce Graham is also a finalist for that award, but remains sidelined with a lower-body injury. Graham is expected back before the start of the post-season.
The Americans have now played every team in the Central Hockey League at least one time, with the exception of the Evansville IceMen, who are not on the Americans schedule this season. Allen is 2-0-1 this season against former IHL clubs, with victories over both Fort Wayne and Dayton.
In other Americans news the Lake Erie Monsters the Americans AHL affiliate have assigned Jake Newton to Allen. Newton a 6’3 200 pound defenseman played in 31 games for Lake Erie this season. He played one year of Junior Hockey with the Texas Tornado of the NAHL in 2006-2007
